Viper Racing
Viper Racing is a car racing game, released at 1999. Even though it's old, there are still people that playing it online. With right patches and addon, it can be as good as newer games :).
Originally Viper Racing came with 8 track and 4 car. It's original track is nice, but if you bored you can also get additional track and also cars. Val's website even host more than 500 addon cars !!! I also done some track convertion for Viper Racing so you can drive at Noerburgring Nordschleife or Spa :). There are also tracks at VRGT.
This game is not sold anymore, but you can still get it using Val's direction or download the stripped down version from VRGT. You can also download many goodies from both sites.
Newbie Guide
You can run Viper Racing without cd by adding parameter "-nocanary" after the exe file, example of using it, create shortcut of your exe and modify to:
"C:\Program Files\SIERRA\Viper Racing\viper racing.exe" -nocanary
There are some file that really usefull to improve Viper Racing.
Here is file that you can put at the DATA directory:
- AIcarman, by Frank P. Wolf, change AI car to something else
- carman, by Frank P. Wolf, car manager to overcome Viper Racing 17 car in it's list limit
- common.res with modified tire, by me, in case you want different kind of tire. Only work for cars that do not included tire physics file
- race.bin version 1.24 with mirror patch, patch to make mirror available at almost all view in addition of ability to load car with high polygon and ability to run the game on windows XP
- trackman, by Frank P. Wolf, utility for swapping original track with add on track
Here is file that you can put at the CONFIG directory:
- optman, by Frank P. Wolf, an interface for options.cfg
You may also need this file:
- Race finder, allow you to find race online and race with other people :).
I love Viper Racing because:
- It is able to run smoothly on old hardware :)
- Realistic physics, can be made equal with newer games
- Allow tuning of many part
- Can be modded, more cars and tracks :).
I intend to do a lot of cars and tracks convertion for VR :).
